ELEGANS PURPLE

elegans-purple-001

Elegans purple looks very much along the 2m style of multi stemmed salvia which come from Mexico. It is most similar to iodantha.

The foliage is purple in the sun. It has pink tubular flowers in autumn/winter.

Unless you want a tall plant it would be good to slash a mature plant to near ground level in mid summer or do half of it then and half later.

Elegans purple doesn’t set seed for me but grows readily from cuttings.

It will frost burn below -2C but will probably survive if the frost is not too severe.

iodantha is the nearest similar plant and is a wonderful plant.
