I introduced this plant to Australia from seed I gathered in New Zealand in 2000.   I had not wanted it distributed  but if you give anything to one person that is the risk.   After some years I decided it was worth growing after all so I got a plant back.

It is very close to fallax but the spikes tend to be thicker and the flowers have a brightness of the blue more so than the inky blue colour of fallax.

It flowers mid winter.

It will frost under minus 1.
