| Planting Information |
Plants are grown in full sun, so are hardy. When received by post you should stack them close together in a box and give half day sun, unless it is cloudy or rainy, to help them recuperate from being enclosed for a couple of days. Beware of flooding them if you leave them in the plastic bags for more than a couple of days. If keeping them a number of days before planting, they are best put back into pots.
I don't think it is a problem ordering plants in summer as long as you are prepared to water them regularly until they are established. They are growing vigorously at this time of the year and should settle in quickly. I have the best selection in summer and autumn. If the weather is particularly hot, I may delay sending them otherwise I usually send them Monday or Tuesday and they arrive in NSW and Victoria on the third day, Queensland on the fourth.
Please note that if you are buying plants in autumn and you are a bit uncertain about its frost level, it is best not to force the plants (food and water) into a lot of fresh sappy growth coming into winter. Just enough to keep it alive and it will be hardier and more frost resistant. The best thing to do is put possible frost tender plants in a large pot with protection until spring. |
